In a partnership between two of the most respected organizations in Atlantic Canada, Provincial Aerospace and Memorial University of Newfoundland have undertaken a leading-edge Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) application development and assessment program. This partnership provides an opportunity to demonstrate UAS capabilities for a wide variety of applications in the harsh environment of the North Atlantic and other locations around the world.
Memorial University’s RAVEN group is presently engaged in research and development activities looking beyond the line of site command and control systems utilizing low band width satellite communications.
In addition to command and control architecture, the RAVEN group is actively involved in UAV sensor development to meet specific applications, including AIS, E/O systems, Virtual INS and development work on a Micro SAR.
Memorial University engineers are also working on image recognition and reduction software that will automatically capture and reduce high resolution images for transmission to the ground control station in near real-time over low band width satellite communications.
